GET TO KNOW ME A LITTLE BETTER

The relationship between counsellor and client is so important, as it’s this relationship that will allow the deep work we do together to be most effective.

Here I’ll share a little bit more about myself.

MY BACKGROUND

I have spent over 25 years working in business, performing various people-support roles from Human Resources Advisor to heading up the global People team for a large company here in Nottingham.

Whichever role I was in, my underlying desire was always the same – to help people.

I feel grateful that my career enabled me to do that for such a long time. As my experience grew though, I felt that I wanted to help people more directly and in a much deeper more personal way.

And so I decided to make a change. â€‹â€‹

I enrolled on a course and began to study for my professional counselling and psychotherapy qualifications. This takes four years, and I have completed three years of training to date. As part of my training, I am in therapy myself and my client work is externally supervised by a qualified and experienced psychotherapy supervisor. Eventually I have been able to open this private practice in Mapperley.

Alongside my psychotherapy training, I volunteered at two counselling charities where I felt I was making a direct and positive difference in people’s lives, and I still volunteer for them now.

This voluntary work gave me the opportunity to help people boost their confidence through developing their strengths and becoming more self-aware which meant at some level they had greater freedom and choice. I was also able to help people from many types of backgrounds facing all kinds of issues.

MY PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Through the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute, I gained my Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, along with membership in the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

Over the coming year, I’m continuing to study for an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy. This course is professionally accredited by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

WHY I BECAME A PSYCHOTHERAPIST

Leaf

From a very early age, I’ve always been interested in people and their behaviour, and always sought to understand issues from different perspectives. The empathy that has developed as a result of this has filled me with a strong desire to help people, because, simply put, that is what I love to do.

If you feel that we could work with each other to help you address whatever issue it is that you need to talk about, then please get in touch.
